This model involves a mentoree finding a mentor by using an online system, such
as Mentor-Quest or MentoringComplete. The Mentoring Program Manager
(MPM) is less involved in this type of program except to promote the system and
review results. Essentially a company offers this program as an additional tool
in the programs it offers to employees for professional development.
Unlike managed mentoring programs, this model generally does not
focus on a specific group but on providing the program to most, if not all, of its
employees. The size of participants for this program is usually large, involving
hundreds if not thousands of participants. It is because of the size of these programs
that MPMs usually do little, if any, monitoring of the pairs. Though that can vary
based upon specific program guidelines.
